Red Red is a beautiful red and white pit bull. He followed us across the street when we were riding the horses. I did not want another dog at the time he came here. I had about 10 and really could not afford another dog. Not to mention the fear of him getting one of my chickens. After he got here and I noticed he was not leaving, I put him in a small dog pen with a tarp over the top. By the time I went in and came back out he was sitting on the porch. He had tore the tarp over the pen and climbed out. So then I put him in the pasture with the horses. I figured he would not get out of the electric fence. As I watched him he went all around looking at the wire. He knew it was hot because I made sure he touched it before I walked away. He got all the way to the far side and jumped through the strands. I could not believe he figured that out so quick. I was aggravated. I put him in the large dog pen but he would only jump back out. I didn't know what to do with this dog. I tried real hard not to like him. He began to follow me everywhere. If I was feeding he was with me. If I told him something he listened to me. He helped me feed the chickens and rabbits every day. I could not help but notice how loyal he was to me. I had started walking and he insisted on going with me. I had to buy him a collar just incase one of the neighbors complained about him not being on a leash. So here I was walking this dog that I didn't want on a leash. I just could not believe it. I could not put him in the house because he would find ways out. He went through the screen, figured out how to jump out the window, push on the door latch to open it. I just could not walk without this dog. So I gave in and decided to keep him since he was so devoted to me. He went every where I went. Then one day he wasn't home. I thought someone had picked him up. I was so sad. I found out he was down the road with a female dog in heat. I tried everything to keep him put up. I would even lock him in the house. The last draw was when I had come home and he had moved the large air conditioner out of the way to get out of the window. He had also taken the trimming of the window frame. The day before he had tore up the dishes on the counter, breaking dishes to get through the kitchen window. So, I let him go and hoped the neighbor would not get too upset. After the second female in the neighborhood went into heat I decided I had to get him fixed before something happened. It cost me over $100, that is why I waited so long. It made a big difference in him. He no longer tears up my house to get out :) and his energy level has gone down a little bit. I didn't mind loosing some of it. Now he is a great, loyal dog. He doesn't follow me quite as much as he use to but that is ok. He still listens pretty well and only had to be punished one time for touching a chicken. He has never bothered them again. He has some of the same qualities that Willie has. I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing. I am glad he followed us that day. I am also glad he never left. He is a great dog. |
