Sadie

Sadie is one of my main babies. We got her around Aug. 2002. She was
approx one year old at the time. The vets office had called me to let me know
they were going to put this dog down if it did not find a home by the end of the
day. I went to see what it was and found this beautiful Dalmatian. I had heard
lots of horror stories about how hyper they are and was afraid to get her. I
went home and told Gerald about her. We went back up to see her and she smiled
at us, that upper lip came up and she showed us those pearly whites. That was
all it took. They told us the story that she was dropped off and was so loyal
that she stayed on the side of the road for 2 weeks waiting for her owners to
come back for her. A lady could not bare to watch her anymore and brought her
into the vets office, hoping to find her a home. Well, I sure am glad she saved
her. Sadie is great. I could not figure out why she was dropped off. She seemed
house broke and great. She was obedient and smart. The only thing that we
noticed that may bother someone was the fact that when she is outside she barks
continually to come inside. She does not like to be out for long without her
people. Within a week or so of training I was able to let her off of the lease
around the chickens and the free roaming rabbits in the yard. We had a game that
she would point at all of the rabbits to let me know where they were. Once
pointed at I would tell her what a great dog she was and we would go on our way.
She has never gone after my chickens, ducks, or rabbits. She is a bit lazy, but
I can handle a lazy dog :) I use to raise abandoned litters of kittens for the
vets office and Sadie was one of my number one foster moms. She would always
help me clean all of the little kitties after they ate. She was so good at
caring for them. I could always count on her. I have to admit she is one of my
favorites. I am so glad we rescued her that day. |
