Willie is our senior dog. Not only is he our oldest dog but he is also our
head dog. Willie was born in Aug. 1997. We are not sure what he is. Some had said he
looks like a mountain cur. He was found at the end of the driveway with his
brother. He was approximately 6 wks old. He sure was a handful as a pup. He
loved to chew and play like many pups. But he was so cute. He liked to be with
his people. One of the things I remember when he was a pup was that he liked to
jump in the tub when someone was in it. Willie also suffered/suffers from
separation anxiety. He did not like to be closed up and left alone. We have
never been able to confine him to any area. He has broken doors, opened windows,
chewed through wire cables, collars, etc. We could not leave him inside of the
house alone for several years. If we did, he would go into the kitchen and open
the cabinets and tear up anything he found, flour, noodles, rice,
oatmeal........ Our kitchen is about 20 ft long and he had the entire kitchen
floor covered one time. Since he is a little older now, he has calmed down and
doesn't do much of that anymore. He is content to stay in the house and only
does minimal damage, eating bread, getting stuff off the counters, knocking over
the garbage. We don't complain now compared to what he did in the past :)
Although, Willie had a lot of bad habits, he made up for them by being the
smartest and most loyal dog we have ever had. He loves his people and listens to
us more than any of the other dogs. We can take him anywhere without worrying that
he will run off. He gets along with most animals and only attacks another animal
if given permission. He likes to go down the slides with the kids at the park,
rides on the merry-go-round, will ride a jet ski, and do just about anything his
people ask him to. He loves to go on trips with his people, whether he is
following us on the horses, bikes, skateboards, or in the van. He is over all a
great dog. Now that he is getting a bit older, he is slowing down. He has begun
to limp and is a bit stiff. He has always been an active dog and serious about
protecting his property from other dogs. I fear it is all catching up with him.
Because he has been such a great dog and with us for so long, he is almost like
a child to us. We even have to make sure he has a special babysitter when we go
on trips. |
